Old Pulteney 15 Year Old

Old Pulteney · Pulteney Distillery

92 proof15 YearWick, Highlands, Scotland
Pulteney's coastal character is unmistakable even at 15 years. The salt air of Wick has done its quiet work on these casks, and the result is a Highland malt that drinks more like the sea than the hills. Non-chill filtered and naturally colored — what you see and taste is honest.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Sea spray and honey are immediate, followed by ripe peach and a waxy, slightly floral quality. Beneath, there's toasted almond and a whisper of brine that recalls the distillery's harbor setting.

Palate

Medium-bodied with a crisp malt backbone. Butterscotch and vanilla arrive first, then give way to dried fruit and a pleasing woody spice. The maritime influence adds a mineral salinity to the mid-palate.

Finish

Medium-long with lingering honey and a dry, slightly peppery oak fade.

Perched on the harbor wall in Wick — once the herring capital of Europe — Pulteney Distillery has drawn its character from North Sea gales since 1826.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year Old

Glenmorangie

A masterclass in how a secondary wood finish can transform a spirit. Glenmorangie's signature elegance meets the inner skin of port-seasoned casks in a marriage that feels deeply intentional. The 14-year maturation in ex-bourbon barrels builds the framework, but it's the extra-maturation in hand-selected ruby port pipes that paints the portrait — all plum, chocolate, and velvety tannin. For the theme of where wood meets spirit, this bottle is practically a thesis statement.

Glenfarclas 105 Cask Strength Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Glenfarclas

Glenfarclas 105 is a sherry-bomb at cask strength that never loses its composure. The heat is substantial but well-integrated, rewarding the patient sipper who adds a few drops of water. For a non-age-statement whisky, the depth of flavor suggests significant maturation.

Deanston Virgin Oak Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Deanston

By finishing in new American oak rather than used casks, Deanston lets the raw timber speak alongside its signature unpeated malt character. The result is a whisky where the wood's influence is transparent and direct. An excellent illustration of how barrel choice shapes a spirit from the inside out.

Benromach Contrasts: Organic Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Benromach

Benromach's organic bottling proves that starting with pure ingredients and traditional floor maltings yields a whisky of uncommon clarity. It's not a powerhouse — it's a window into what barley tastes like when nothing gets in the way. A terrific introductory Speyside that rewards contemplation.
