Le Rhum par Neisson
Neisson · Distillerie Neisson
A benchmark daily-drinking agricole blanc that punches far above its price — proof that clarity in the glass can conceal remarkable depth in the mouth.
Nose
A vivid rush of fresh-cut sugar cane, green olive brine, and white pepper, layered with lime zest, cane flower, and a mineral wisp of sea spray.
Palate
Oily and full-bodied for a blanc, coating the mouth with grassy cane juice, banana leaf, cracked black pepper, and a saline vegetal thrust; underneath runs a subtle sweetness of white peach and sugarcane wax.
Finish
Long, warming, and herbaceous, fading through anise, lime peel, and a lingering peppery burn that keeps declaring itself well after the swallow.
- Base Ingredient
- Fresh-pressed sugar cane juice from the Neisson estate
- Distillation
- Single-column Savalle copper still distillation; bottled unaged at 52.5% ABV under the Martinique AOC
- Country
- Le Carbet, Martinique
Cocktail Suggestion
Le Carbet Ti' Punch — In a rocks glass, muddle a thick disc of lime (with peel) with 1 barspoon of cane syrup (sirop de canne). Add 2 oz Le Rhum par Neisson. Stir gently — no ice, chacun prépare sa propre mort. Optional: a single large cube if the day demands it.
Food Pairing
Grilled shrimp with green mango salad, or accras de morue (Antillean salt cod fritters) with a squeeze of lime.
Distilled by the Neisson family on Martinique's northwestern coast since 1931, this rhum is fermented from pure cane juice grown on the estate and distilled in the distillery's iconic copper Savalle column — a fiercely traditional expression from one of the last independent family-owned agricole distilleries.

Neisson Le Galion Rhum Agricole Blanc
Neisson
A precise, terroir-forward blanc that rewards slow sipping and elevates any cocktail it touches — proof that appetite for authenticity shapes the finest agricole.

Neisson 12 Year Old Rhum Agricole Vieux
Neisson
One of the most articulate expressions of aged Martinique agricole made today — a rum where every decade in cask has been earned, not imposed.

Neisson 18 Year Old Rhum Agricole Vieux
Neisson
Neisson's extended-age expressions are among the finest aged spirits produced anywhere in the world. Eighteen years in tropical conditions condenses flavor with an intensity that temperate-aged spirits struggle to match. This is a meditation rum — gravity incarnate.

Neisson L'Esprit de Neisson Rhum Agricole Blanc
Neisson
One of the most transparent expressions of Martinique terroir bottled at cask strength — searing, mineral, and unmistakably alive. Best sipped slowly with water, or used to build cocktails of startling intensity.

Doorly's 14 Year Old Barbados Rum
Doorly's
Doorly's 14 Year Old is one of the finest arguments for patient tropical aging in carefully selected casks. Where wood meets spirit, this rum has found a near-perfect equilibrium — the barrel's inner skin has contributed layers of complexity without overwhelming the Barbadian molasses-based distillate. At its price point, it remains one of the great values in aged spirits, delivering the kind of oak-driven sophistication that many bottles at three times the cost aspire to. A masterclass in wood management from R.L. Seale and the Foursquare Distillery.

Centenario Fundación 25 Year Old Gran Reserva
Ron Centenario
If this issue's theme is heat shaped by time, Centenario 25 is the thesis statement in liquid form. Twenty-five years of solera aging in Costa Rica's tropical climate compress decades of wood interaction into a rum of startling depth and composure. Where the Glenfarclas 105 delivers furnace-like intensity and the San Matías Extra Añejo shows agave transformed by patient oak, this rum demonstrates how relentless equatorial warmth can forge something almost impossibly smooth yet layered. A masterclass in tropical patience.

Clarendon 10 Year Old Jamaica Rum
Rum Bar by Worthy Park
This issue's theme — Material Shapes Memory — finds its purest expression here. Clarendon's copper pot stills, some of the oldest continuously operating in the Caribbean, literally shape the spirit molecule by molecule, while a decade in Jamaican tropical warehouses (clay floors, wooden walls, humid air) imprints the rum with a sense of place no other maturation environment can replicate. The result is a rum where the materials of its making — copper, clay, wood, cane — are not just tools but co-authors. At $55, it's an extraordinary window into how physical substance becomes liquid memory.

Privateer True American Rum
Privateer
Privateer True American Rum is the embodiment of this issue's theme: essence before ornament. Made entirely on-site in Massachusetts from blackstrap molasses, pot-distilled and aged in new American oak, it refuses every shortcut — no added sugar, no coloring, no glycerol. What emerges is a rum of startling clarity of purpose, built on honest craft and raw material integrity. It proves that rum doesn't need a tropical origin story or dosing to be compelling. It just needs conviction.
