Sottimano Barbaresco Fausoni DOCG 2020

Sottimano

Barbaresco, Piedmont, Italy
Sottimano's Fausoni vineyard sits in the Neive subzone and consistently delivers Barbaresco with both power and perfume. The 2020 vintage offered warmth that brought ripeness without sacrificing the grape's essential acidity. This is Nebbiolo that rewards decanting now or cellaring for a decade.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Wild cherry and dried rose petals lead, with earthy undergrowth and a hint of mint. Secondary aromas of cedar and subtle tar emerge with air.

Palate

Medium-to-full bodied with fine, persistent tannins. Flavors of sour cherry, violet, and licorice interweave with a savory, almost gamey quality. The acidity is bright and driving.

Finish

Long and mineral-driven with lingering cherry, violet, and a cedar spice tail.

Food Pairing

The wine's gamey notes and bright acidity cut through the richness of slow-braised rabbit, while its earthy, floral complexity echoes the forest-floor character of porcini and chanterelle mushrooms.

The Story

Andrea Sottimano farms six cru vineyards across the Barbaresco denomination using organic principles, fermenting with native yeast and aging in French oak barrels of varying sizes to let each site speak distinctly.
