Bower Hill Barrel Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bower Hill · MGP of Indiana (bottled by Bower Hill Whiskey Co., Bardstown, KY)
An overlooked small-batch sourced bourbon that punches well above its price point — structured, spice-forward, and quietly complex, ideal for drinkers who prize backbone over gloss.
Nose
A taut opening of dark caramel and toasted rye bread, tightening around baking spice, orange peel, and a whisper of tobacco leaf; air coaxes out darker notes of cocoa nib and charred oak.
Palate
The tension breaks on the tongue — a rush of brown sugar and cinnamon-dusted cherry gives way to peppery rye, leather, and a resinous pull of oak. Mid-palate carries pecan brittle and a faint char.
Finish
Long, warming, and gently drying, with lingering clove, dark chocolate, and a final flicker of orange oil over toasted oak.

Cocktail Suggestion
The Rebellion's Ease — 2 oz Bower Hill Barrel Reserve, 0.5 oz Amaro Nonino, 0.25 oz demerara syrup, 2 dashes orange bitters, 1 dash Angostura. Stir with ice 30 seconds, strain into a chilled rocks glass over a single large cube. Express an orange peel and drop in.
Food Pairing
Grilled duck breast with a cherry-black pepper reduction, or aged Gouda with candied pecans.
Bower Hill is a small independent label born in the Pittsburgh suburbs, quietly curating high-rye MGP barrels and bottling them in Bardstown as a nod to the Whiskey Rebellion farmers who once defied the taxman on Bower Hill itself.
