Domaine du Coulet Cornas Les Terrasses du Serre 2020

Domaine du Coulet

NASCornas, Northern Rhône, France
Matthieu Barret's Les Terrasses du Serre bottling delivers the rugged intensity Cornas is known for, but with a precision that speaks to careful vineyard work on steep granite hillsides. This is Syrah that tastes like its place — brooding, mineral, unapologetically Northern Rhône.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Concentrated blackcurrant and violet dominate, with crushed stone minerality and a savory, almost gamey edge. Black cherry and a hint of cedar emerge with air, alongside subtle green herbs.

Palate

Dense and structured, with blackcurrant and cherry fruit wrapped in firm but fine-grained tannins. Cedar and toasted oak provide a frame without intruding, while a mineral thread — granite-like — runs through the mid-palate. Violet returns on the back palate.

Finish

Long and firm, with cherry, cedar, and a lasting mineral impression. The tannins grip and release slowly.

Food Pairing

The wine's gamey depth and dark fruit intensity pair naturally with venison's lean richness, while the blackberry sauce echoes the blackcurrant and violet on the palate.

The Story

Matthieu Barret farms steep, terraced granite slopes in Cornas — one of the Northern Rhône's most demanding appellations — crafting concentrated, mineral-driven Syrah with minimal intervention at his Domaine du Coulet.
