The Faravel family has tended these Gigondas vines for generations, producing old-fashioned, field-blended wines of remarkable consistency. The 2022 shows concentrated fruit with the kind of earthy, smoky depth that makes Gigondas one of the Southern Rhône's great appellations.
Nose
Dark berry fruit — blackberry and blackcurrant — entwined with dried garrigue herbs, violet, and a faint smoky, mineral note that speaks to the Dentelles de Montmirail's limestone soils.
Palate
Full-bodied and generous, with ripe cherry and berry fruit wrapped in fine-grained tannins. There is a spiced, almost toasted quality from the old vine Grenache, alongside a distinctive rocky minerality that lends structure.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering blackcurrant, dried herbs, and a pleasant smoky-mineral persistence.

Food Pairing
The wine's concentrated dark fruit and garrigue herb notes are a natural match for herb-crusted, charcoal-grilled lamb. The char from the grill echoes the wine's smoky mineral undertone.
Farmed by the Faravel family since 1840 on the limestone and clay slopes beneath the Dentelles de Montmirail, Domaine du Cayron produces one of Gigondas's most traditionally styled wines from old-vine Grenache.
