Domaine de la Tournelle Arbois Trousseau 2021

Domaine de la Tournelle

Arbois, Jura, France
Trousseau is the Jura's most terroir-transparent red grape, and Domaine de la Tournelle works it with organic and biodynamic care. This 2021 is electric — light in body but charged with mineral energy, the kind of red wine that changes the way you think about what red wine can be. Pure place in a bottle.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Bright red cherry and wild strawberry lead, followed by a distinctive mineral-earthy quality — wet stone and iron filings. A faint herbal note and violet perfume emerge with air.

Palate

Light-bodied but tensile, with sour cherry fruit, fine-grained tannins, and a saline minerality that runs the length of the palate. There's a gamey, slightly smoky undertone that speaks to the Jura's limestone-marl soils. Refreshing acidity keeps it vibrant and alive.

Finish

Medium, with cherry persistence, earthy minerals, and a clean, slightly bitter almond close.

Serve & Pair

Food Pairing

Aged Comté from the Jura paired with tangy cornichons and crusty sourdough — a regional pairing where the nutty cheese and the wine's minerality amplify each other's sense of place.

The Story

Pascal and Evelyne Clairet farm their steep Jurassic limestone vineyards biodynamically in the village of Arbois, coaxing Trousseau — a variety that barely exists outside this corner of eastern France — into wines of startling transparency.
