Tequila Ocho Reposado 2023 Single Estate
Tequila Ocho · Destilería La Alteña
Ocho's single-estate approach delivers terroir-driven tequila with unusual transparency. The 2023 vintage reposado walks the line between blanco freshness and oak influence beautifully — just enough barrel time to add dimension, never enough to mask the land. This is tequila for people who want to taste the field.
Nose
Bright cooked agave and citrus zest open immediately, followed by a gentle oak influence and subtle butter. Underneath, a mineral earthiness and light herbal quality keep things grounded.
Palate
Medium-bodied with a clean entry of roasted agave and white pepper. The brief oak aging adds vanilla and a whisper of butterscotch without overwhelming the agave's natural sweetness. Green herbs and a touch of ripe pear emerge midpalate.
Finish
Clean and medium-length, with lingering agave, a dusting of pepper, and a pleasant mineral note.

Food Pairing
Charcoal-grilled mahi-mahi tacos with pickled red cabbage, avocado crema, and a squeeze of lime — the fish's delicate char and the tequila's mineral agave character complement each other naturally.
Crafted by Carlos Camarena at his family's La Alteña distillery in the Jalisco Highlands, where each vintage is sourced from a single named estate and distilled with slow-roasted brick oven agave.

Tequila Ocho Extra Añejo 2020
Tequila Ocho
Where many extra añejos let the barrel overwhelm the spirit, Ocho's 2020 vintage maintains a clear dialogue between agave and oak. The terroir-driven approach — single ranch, single vintage — gives this bottle a specificity that mass-produced competitors can't match. The finish alone justifies the price.

El Tesoro 70th Aniversario Mature Blanco
El Tesoro
A textbook expression of Los Altos highland terroir at 6,900 feet — Carlos Camarena's tahona-and-roller-mill blend rendered at full strength of character. It's a blanco that trades bombast for precision and reminds you why El Tesoro remains a benchmark.

Tequila Ocho Reposado 2022 Single Estate
Tequila Ocho
The 2022 vintage showcases Ocho's commitment to single-estate terroir — each year's release tastes different because the agave comes from a different rancho. The brief reposado rest adds just enough roundness without masking the agave's voice. This is tequila that respects its raw material above all.

Tequila Ocho Blanco 2021 Los Corrales
Tequila Ocho
Ocho's single-estate vintage model is the tequila world's answer to terroir-driven wine. The Los Corrales rancho delivers a mineral-driven profile that shows how much geography matters, even within the same region. This is a blanco built for contemplation rather than cocktail drowning, though it excels in either context.

Código 1530 Añejo
Código 1530
Código 1530 Añejo is a masterclass in what happens when spirit and stave become intimate. The use of Cabernet-seasoned French White Oak—rather than the more common American oak ex-bourbon barrels—creates a distinctive bridge between the agave world and the wine world, making it a perfect fit for the 'Barrel's Inner Skin' theme. The wine-stained wood imparts a refined tannic structure and fruit-forward complexity that complement rather than overwhelm the cooked agave heart. This is contemplative, after-dinner tequila that rewards patience.

Tequila San Matías Gran Reserva Extra Añejo
San Matías
Casa San Matías has been making tequila since 1886, and this extra añejo demonstrates a mastery of time and barrel. Three years in American oak have deepened the spirit without erasing its agave identity—a furnace of patience made liquid. At under $90, it punches well above its price class, delivering the contemplative depth of bottles twice its cost. A superb after-dinner pour for those who believe great tequila rewards the same reverence as aged whisky.

Fortaleza Reposado Winter Blend 2024
Fortaleza
Fortaleza's Winter Blend series marries reposado lots of varying age into a seasonal expression that highlights the interplay between agave and oak. The tahona-crushed agave gives it a textural richness that roller-milled tequilas rarely achieve. This is tequila where craft and material are inseparable.

Siembra Azul Añejo
Siembra Azul
A quietly excellent Añejo that resists the modern impulse toward heavy oak and sweetness — David Suro's Siembra Azul remains a benchmark for honest, agave-first tequila at a fair price.
