Tasting Notes

Nose

Fresh-pressed sugarcane leads, layered with light vanilla, toasted almond, dried apricot, and a whisper of grassy agricole character softened by oak.

Palate

Medium-bodied and dry, with cane syrup, honeyed pear, cocoa nib, gentle baking spice, and a subtle floral lift. Less vegetal than Martinique agricoles, more polished and rounded.

Finish

Clean and moderately long, with lingering vanilla, cane, and a faint oak tannin — restrained rather than showy.

The Story

Founded in 1862 by Dupré Barbancourt, a Charentais expatriate who applied double-distillation cognac methodology to Haitian cane juice, the estate has remained family-run for five generations at Domaine Barbancourt in the Plaine du Cul-de-Sac outside Port-au-Prince.
