Domaine du Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux 2020

Domaine du Comte Armand

Vintage 2020Burgundy, France
Clos des Epeneaux is a monopole — one of Burgundy's rarest single-owner premier cru vineyards. The 2020 vintage shows the warmth of the year but retains the tension and structure that make Pommard compelling. This is Pinot Noir shaped by a very specific piece of earth, and it shows.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Dark cherry and violet lead with striking intensity, layered over earthy forest floor and cedar. A subtle gamey note adds complexity, while a hint of mint provides unexpected freshness.

Palate

Structured and powerful for Pommard, yet elegant. Blackcurrant and cherry dominate, framed by fine-grained tannins and woody oak spice. Mid-palate reveals floral rose character and a toasted quality from judicious barrel aging. There is genuine depth here.

Finish

Long and savory, with cedar and blackcurrant persisting, a whisper of violet, and a mineral backbone that recalls the limestone beneath the vineyard.

The Story

The Comte Armand family has held the Clos des Epeneaux — a walled 12.5-acre monopole in the heart of Pommard — since 1826, and the domaine has been farmed biodynamically since 2005 under the direction of Paul Zinetti.

Penfolds Grange 2018

Penfolds

Grange is Australia's most celebrated blend, and the 2018 vintage reminds us why. Max Schubert's original vision — multi-vineyard, multi-region Shiraz with a small percentage of Cabernet — lives on in a wine where blending is not just technique but philosophy. Each parcel contributes something the others lack, and the result is greater than any single vineyard could deliver.

Domaine de Trévallon Rouge 2019

Domaine de Trévallon

Eloi Dürrbach's roughly equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah has been one of Provence's most singular wines for four decades. The 2019 vintage captures the estate's signature tension between power and elegance — a wine that demands cellaring but already reveals its architecture to patient tasters.

Descendientes de J. Palacios

Alvaro Palacios and his nephew Ricardo brought global attention to Bierzo's old-vine Mencía, and Pétalos remains their most accessible expression of that mission. The 2022 vintage is vibrant and perfumed, demonstrating why this grape — when farmed with conviction — can rival Burgundy for sheer aromatic beauty at a fraction of the cost.

COS Cerasuolo di Vittoria Classico DOCG 2020

COS

COS was fermenting in buried terracotta amphorae before it became fashionable, and this Cerasuolo di Vittoria shows why the method endures. It's Sicily's only DOCG red expressed in its purest form — no oak distraction, just Nero d'Avola and Frappato in transparent conversation.
